Fire Resistant Coating For Wood.

Fire Rating is applicable for structural elements of buildings and is expressed in terms of TIME for which it will resist a standard fire of given time temperature grading:

"SURFACE SPREAD OF FLAME" is expressed as e RATE OF FLAME SPREAD along the surface or skin of the material (i.e. vertical spread of fire) and is expressed as Class IV (Very rapid spread of flame) like fiberboard to Class I (Very low surface spread of flame) like asbestos.

Fire always first starts along the surface and then penetrates the thickness of material.  Although the material may be thick having on or two hours "FIRE RATING", the fire will still spread along the surface or skin of material unless its surface is coated with

FIRE RESISTANT COATINGS. Fire Resistant Coatings will not allow flames to spread along the surface of the materials and, as such, are of greater significance then "FIRE RATING"

Wood is very widely used in the interiors and needs to be protected against fire.  Wood can be rendered fire resistant by application of Fire Resistant Coatings.

In order to achieve the desired FR properties, it is necessary to apply certain minimum quantity of FR Coatings depending upon the type of wood.

EXTENSIVE TESTS were carried out on highly combustible varieties of wood like particle boards, fibber boards, plywood, kailwood etc. having Class IV Surface Spread of Flame to evaluate their "Reaction to Fire" before And after application of Fire resistant Coatings required to convert these to Class I Surface Spread of Flame i.e. non-combustible.  Abstracts of "REACTION TO FIRE TEST" , is listed in this literature.

Fire Resistant Coatings replaces spirit/shellac and enamel paints and provides finish, which is:

  • Class I Surface Spread of Flame and other properties as per BS: 476 Parts 6 & 7. AST, E662-79 and ASTM D1360-79.

  • Superior and decorative.

  • Durable - Twice the life.

  • Weather resistant - use out-doors if you please.

  • Stain Resistant.

  • Acid/Alkali Resistant.

  • Easy to apply.

  • Minimum maintenance. Economical.
